DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone Quadcopter for GoPro

DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone Quadcopter for GoPro

The DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone is an all in one solution. It comes ready to fly, so no need to get the tools out. The DJI integrated flight control system includes GPS.  This drone makes aerial filming fun and easy.  The camera(not included, but use a GoPro) installs with the included holder, and works very well.

If you are coming from a Parrot AR Drone, the phantom is easy to learn and it truly was ready to fly 10 minutes from opening the box. It held up great on the mountain with a GoPro Hero 3 underneath.

Pros:
*aesthetically pleasing
*simple and straightforward initial setup
*stable flight controller (Naza-M)
*position lock is pretty neat (feature of Naza-M flight controller)

Cons:
*random erratic flying behavior (sudden drop in altitude) when flying from shaded areas into sunlight
*floating feel when flying
*radio feels pretty cheap, but then again, you get what you paid for (definitely not a Devo 10 and Dx8)
*advertised as flying “10 to 15 minutes”, but only got about ~8 min? Make sure you buy a few extra batteries here.

  • Two flight control modes, including position hold. __Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC) mode.
  • Contains remote control unit, ready to fly.__High intensity LED Indicators, to aid orientation during flight.
  • GPS & Compass module included. __Camera mount included for GoPro.
  • Lipo flight battery and charger included. __Low voltage protection.

Syma X1 4 Channel 2.4G RC Quad Copter – UFO

Syma X1 4 Channel 2.4G RC Quad Copter – UFO

The Syma X1 4 channel toy drone is a great product, and a great price. This is a great little toy for big boys and girls, but not for the little ones. The product moves left, right, forward, backward, up down and can steer left and right while in forward flight. It also will do a flip which is a neat little trick that gets lots of ohhs and ahhs. Unlike Syma’s other little helicopter it is not as simple to fly. I started by just practicing hovering. Then, sliding forward back left and right. As soon as you get into forward flight it can be a little unstable. Definitely a fantastic to if you are patient and practice.

It’s not the nimbelist quad out there, but it does the trick. I mostly fly electric airplanes and I’ve added gyro’s to them to add more fun (and control), but I do have a couple of helicopters. So I’m and advanced flyer. This thing is great. First and foremost it is the epitome of stable. After you get it trimmed out by using the controller trim controls, you can put it up and let go. It will stay there if you have it hovering. But you probably will have it going up or down as it’s hard to keep in one place (the controller is very sensitive to throttle). Just keep throttling up or down and you’ll get the hang of it.

I’ve flown it outside many times and was able to hold my own in 5-10mph winds. You can do some really cool maneuvers by turning the machine to the left and doing a tilt left (or both rights) at the same time. I’ve had this thing at more than a 45 degree angle outside. And boy does she go. And you can fly her right out of range easily doing that. But then she’ll just fall to the grass. If things go bad, and you are up a bit, then just cut the throttle and bring it back up and that will stop her in her tracks.

I’ve had no breaks, nothing to repair or replace, not even the blades and they give you a second set, but I am good at flying. I have hit the street pretty hard and was surprised nothing broke. I had to repair my first and second heli’s way more with less powerful crashes. So this thing is built light and strong.

  • Stabilty and agility in flight simplify professional 3D maneuvers like pirouettes 3D fun flips, rolls, and more.
  • 2.4GHz Radio control
  • 3 way precision controller: up/down, left/right, forward/backward
  • Two Fly Mode:Indoor/Outdoor
  • Controlling distance: About 40 Meters

Parrot AR. Drone 2.0 Quadricopter

Parrot AR. Drone 2.0 Quadricopter

The coolest flying “toy” just got better! Compared to the original, nearly everything has improved. The new drone is more stable in flight, especially at higher altitudes. Ive been piloting with my iPad for the past month, about 50 flights so far and its still doing great.

New features like the HD camera, additional sensors and FLIP work well. Video quality is much better than the original and really comes in handy when piloting via camera & screen.

The core functionality is solid but there are some bugs to be addressed with video recording. Would have given it 5 stars if the USB recording was perfect but it seems to be problematic and degrades the video quality. I recorded about
10 flights to USB then it started acting up. Wifi recording mode seems to be better quality but flight range is decreased.

Thanks to Parrot for producing such a unique product. I am shocked that it still has NO competition from other manufacturers.

Cons:
1. Requires An iOS or Android Device to work. If you don’t have an iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad or Android Device this will not work. (put phones in
Airplane mode prior to flying to help avoid disconnection)
2. Limited WiFi recording range
3. USB recording mode issues
4. Spare batteries and Parts are a good idea, I suggest getting a set of
spare gears & shafts, They are the most likely parts to damage in a
bad crash.
5. If video stream stops while wifi recording, stop the recording and the video comes back.
6. Beware of Higher capacity batteries, the drone was designed for the battery it comes with, running for longer than intended may damage components like the motor or CPU.
